Most of the time, you only need to contact one agency, not all three. It is helpful to obtain credit reports from all three agencies because you can check the statements they send you for discrepancies and make a better plan to fix your credit.
When you receive a copy of your credit report you should check all of the entries carefully and right away. If you have been diligent in keeping your own financial records, cross checking your credit report should be a simple. Check to see if all payments you have made have been properly recorded on the credit report and if all entries are correct. If you see a charge or payment that is not yours or anything else suspicious check with the credit bureau right away.
